Large Brush Fires Break Out On Route 8 In Trumbull: Shelton FD

Firefighters battled several large brush fires that broke out along Route 8 in Shelton and Trumbull, according to fire officials.

TRUMBULL, CT — Firefighters battled several large brush fires that broke out along Route 8 in Shelton and Trumbull on Monday, according to fire officials.

According to the Shelton Fire Department's Facebook page, firefighters received reports of multiple brush fires on the median of Route 8 around 1:30 p.m.

While responding to the area, a large plume of smoke was visible from less than a mile away, fire officials said.

When crews arrived, they found a large brush fire in the median of Route 8 just north of the exit 11 entrance ramp. At the same time, a separate Shelton fire unit located a second large brush fire just south of the exit 12 entrance ramp, officials said.

A third fire was then found north of the exit 11 exit ramp in Trumbull. Shelton fire crews handled the two blazes in their town while Trumbull fire crews responded to the brush fire in their town, officials said.

Deputy Chief Paul Wilson of the Shelton Fire Department was the incident commander of the fire near exit 11 while Shelton Fire Assistant Chief Mike Plavcan was in charge of the blaze closest to exit 12, officials said.

No injuries were reported and the highway was later opened without restrictions, officials said.
