TRUMBULL, CT — The new coronavirus outbreak in Connecticut and across the nation is having vast impacts in Trumbull, including the closure of schools and many businesses.

The number of cases of the illness caused by the virus, known as COVID-19, continue to rise and additional measures and closures continue to be announced. The governor has declared a 'Stay Safe, Stay Home' program. All non-life-sustaining businesses in Connecticut have been closed.

As of Friday, there were 1,291 positive cases of coronavirus in Connecticut with 173 hospitalizations. There are eight confirmed cases in Trumbull, according to the state Department of Public Health.

A total of 27 people in Connecticut have died as a result of COVID-19.

Town officials have taken several steps to limit the spread of coronavirus in town. All town parks including playgrounds are closed.

All Trumbull Public Schools are closed until at least April 20 per Gov. Ned Lamont's executive order.

Town offices are closed and staff are working remotely. The building department is doing more things remotely and some inspections may be able to be done live using FaceTime and plan reviews may be done over email.

The Transfer Station is open during regular business hours. The senior center is closed to the public, but staff continue to monitor phone lines to assist residents.

The food pantry is delivery Meals on Wheels and items to seniors in need. The pantry is also assisting families, adults and children. The number to call is 203-452-5136 to set-up a drive-thru or drop-off.

Large item pick-up appointments are being suspended until town offices open again.

The Trumbull Library is closed, but many titles are available digitally.
