Man Smashes Own TV, Kitchen: Trumbull PD

Originally the incident was reported as a burglary, but upon further investigation police learned a resident caused the damage, police said.

TRUMBULL, CT — A Trumbull man was arrested after he smashed his own kitchen and TV and lied to police about it, according to police.

Police were called to a burglary complaint July 29. A woman said she went out and her husband was going to stay home, police said. The woman and her husband arrived home around the same time and said they found damage inside the house.

The stove was smashed along with the granite counter tops and a TV that was mounted to a wall. A pick ax was located in the front yard. There were no signs of forced entry, police said.

The man was questioned and he said he was at a friend's house while his wife was out. Later on that day he called police to say he caused the damage because he didn't feel appreciated, police said.

Tyrone Atkinson, 33, was charged with first-degree criminal mischief and interfering with police.
