TRUMBULL, CT — Former First Selectman Tim Herbst's father Mike Herbst announced he will run for first selectman.

The elder Herbst was Trumbull High School's athletic director before retiring. He has lived in Trumbull for 42 years, according to the Trumbull Times. He said he is worried about increased spending in time and zoning decisions that could overcrowd schools.

Tim Herbst decided not to run again for first selectman in 2017 in order to focus on the 2018 gubernatorial race. He ran in the GOP primary, but didn't get the nomination. He was elected first selectman at age 29, the youngest in the town's history.
