No Mask Mandate In Trumbull 'At This Time,' First Selectman Says

Certain state guidelines concerning COVID-19 still remain in effect, according to First Selectman Vicki Tesoro.

TRUMBULL, CT — Trumbull will not institute a mask mandate to help stop the spread of the coronavirus, though First Selectman Vicki Tesoro is leaving the door open for that possibility in the future.

"Since Trumbull's positivity rate remains low and our vaccination rate is high, I will not be instituting a mask mandate within Trumbull at this time," wrote Tesoro this week on Facebook (see below). "We will continue to monitor the situation daily."

Due to rapid spread of the delta variant of the virus, a growing number of communities throughout Connecticut are implementing mask mandates this week, including Bridgeport, Hartford, New Haven, Norwalk and Stamford. Last week, Gov. Ned Lamont gave municipalities the choice of implementing mask mandates.

Trumbull's COVID-19 positivity rate remains under 1 percent, Tesoro said, and nearly three-quarters of the community is vaccinated. As a whole, Connecticut's positivity rate is above 3.5 percent, and less than 65 percent of the state is vaccinated, she added.

Tesoro said the following state guidelines do apply in Trumbull:

  • Unvaccinated people must wear masks while in indoor public places
  • Everyone must wear masks regardless of vaccination status while inside certain settings, such as healthcare facilities, facilities housing vulnerable populations, public and private transit, correctional facilities, schools, and childcare
  • Masks are not required outdoors
  • Individuals, regardless of their vaccination status, must wear masks indoors if required in the commissioner's order for special settings or by a municipality
  • Businesses, private property owners, and state and local government offices may require masks to be worn by everyone inside of their own facilities
