Hole Opens Up In Westfield Trumbull Mall Parking Deck: Update

No injuries were reported in the Sunday incident, which led to the closure of the deck near the Target store.

TRUMBULL, CT — A pothole opened up in a parking deck at the Westfield Trumbull mall over the weekend, leading to a piece of concrete falling through the deck onto the parking lot below, the Westfield Trumbull Management confirmed to Patch.

No injuries were reported, but the deck, which is located near the Target and JC Penney stores, now has a hole in it.

"We can confirm that there were no injuries or vehicles affected after a large pothole opened in a drive aisle of Westfield Trumbull’s Red parking deck on Sunday," said Westfield Trumbull Management in a statement. "As the safety of our guests is of utmost importance, we have closed the parking deck until our structural engineer can make his assessment and the appropriate repairs can be made."

Westfield's structural engineer currently is on-site completing the necessary assessments, but how long the deck will be closed has not been determined.

Customers looking to shop at Target or JCPenney can still park in the parking areas outside the Red parking garage and walk into Target or JCPenney on the first or second level, according to management. They also can access either department store through the interior entrances on the mall's upper and lower levels.
