Police Arrest Man in Fatal Route 8 Stabbing

The incident happened last week. A man has been charged with murder.

State Police have charged a Bridgeport man with murder after an altercation turned deadly on a Route 8 off-ramp Dec. 18.

Anthony Espinal, 36, of Bridgeport is being held in lieu of a $250,000 bond after being arrested by police.

Police received a call around 11:20 p.m. from a witness who said two people were outside their vehicles on Route 25/8 southbound exit 5 off-ramp and that they were walking toward each other in an aggresive manner, said Lt. J Paul Vance, police spokesman.

Police then got another call immediately after from one of the people involved in the altercation. The caller said he was actively involved in an altercation with another male and requested assistance. A scuffle was overheard and the call was disconnected.

The man called back 911 and said he had retreated to Lindley and Capitol avenues in Bridgeport.

Police arrived and secured the man at that location and secured the crime scene on the off-ramp, Vance said.

They found Bryant Kelly, 26, of Bridgeport with at least one severe stab wound. He was transported by ambulance to St. Vincent’s Hospital where he was pronounced dead shortly after.
