At a ceremony normally reserved for graduating students, Childs, who will graduate next year, was presented with two prestigious awards for her academic achievement and community involvement. She received the All-State Academic Team/Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society Award and the Phi Theta Kappa All USA & Connecticut Community College Academic Award.
While working full time, Childs has pursued her associate’s degree in Business Administration while maintaining a 3.8 average. In addition, she found the time for extensive involvement in the community. This includes working for both local and national organizations such as Spooner House and Homes for the Brave.
In addition, she coordinated such activities as Wreaths Across America and the Annual Motorcycle Ride & Classic Antique Car Show that raised over $18,000 for the Wounded Warrior Project.
