Herbst Concedes in State Treasurer Race

Trumbull First Selectman Tim Herbst Conceded Wednesday afternoon.

It was a nail-biter finish for the state treasurer race, but Trumbull First Selectman Tim Herbst conceded to longtime Democrat incumbent Denise Nappier.

“Campaigns are about putting ideas in action,” Herbst tweeted Wednesday. “I am proud of the effort we waged.”

Herbst thanked Trumbull voters for their support, according to the Trumbull Times.

He also wished Nappier success over the next four years, according to the Hartford Courant. He once again extended sympathies to Nappier, who lost her mother on Nov. 1.

Nappier led by more than 9,000 votes with all but three municipality results in.

Herbst told supporters earlier Wednesday that he may need their help in case a recount is necessary, which happens under state law automatically if less than 2,000 votes separate two candidates. In the end several traditionally Democratic municipalities came through for Nappier to put her over the top.
