Teen Accused Of Firing Handgun During Dispute Inside Trumbull Mall Arrested: Police

Police said a Bridgeport resident, 13, accused of firing a handgun during a dispute inside the Trumbull Mall was recently arrested.

TRUMBULL, CT — A 13-year-old Bridgeport resident accused of firing a handgun during a dispute inside the Trumbull Mall late last year was recently arrested, according to the Trumbull Police Department.

In a news release Monday, Police Lt. Brian Falkenstein said the teen was arrested near his home Friday around 8 a.m. after he ran from detectives as they tried to serve an active arrest warrant.

The teen was charged with first-degree attempted assault, illegal discharge of a firearm and first-degree reckless endangerment, as well as other related charges, according to Falkenstein.

The teen was remanded to the custody of a Bridgeport juvenile court and is scheduled to be arraigned, Falkenstein said.

The teen was one of several teenagers who were involved in a dispute inside the shopping mall on Dec. 26 and was identified as the shooter following a police investigation, according to Falkenstein.

In December, police said a gun was fired during a "heated argument" between several teens inside the mall.

"Officers learned that several teenagers, who were all known to each other, got into a heated argument while walking through the shopping center outside the Macy's store on the upper level," police wrote in a news release in December. "One of the teens displayed a handgun and fired at least one shot, but did not strike anyone."

No one was injured as a result of the gunfire, according to Falkenstein.
