Teen Accused Of Threatening Others With Hatchet At Trumbull Mall: PD
A teen is accused of threatening customers at the Westfield Trumbull mall while carrying a hatchet, according to police.

TRUMBULL, CT — A Bridgeport teen accused of threatening other teens inside the Westfield Trumbull mall while carrying a hatchet was arrested Monday evening, according to police.
In a news release, Police Lt. Brian Weir said officers working security at the mall following a recent uptick in disturbances at the shopping center were approached by a customer around 7 p.m.
The customer pointed out a group of juveniles in the food court area and said one of them was threatening others while holding an axe, which officers later found out was a hatchet, Weir said.

Several juveniles were then seen running out of the mall and into the parking lot near the food court.
According to Weir, the group pointed officers to a 15-year-old juvenile who was standing in the parking lot near Macy's and indicated he had an axe or a machete in his possession.

Officers arrested the teen near a bus stop and found he was carrying a hatchet with a yellow and black handle concealed in his waistband, Weir said. No injuries were reported.
The teen was charged with breach of peace and possession of a dangerous weapon and is scheduled to appear in juvenile court later this month, Weir said.
