Teen Beaten, Robbed By Gang At Trumbull Mall: Police

TRUMBULL, CT — A Bridgeport teen was attacked and robbed of cash by a gang of other teens while shopping at the Westfield Trumbull Mall on Saturday afternoon, Jan. 12, according to Trumbull police.

The incident occurred at about 5:30 p.m. as Trumbull officers on patrol at the mall saw a fight break out between several teenage boys in the Target department store. The officers were able to break up the melee and apprehend two of the suspects as they attempted to flee.

"The victim of the attack told the officers that the group of five or six males approached
him as he walked into Target and asked him if he was talking about someone they knew," wrote Trumbull Police Capt. Keith Golding in a statement. "The victim did not know what they were talking about and responded 'no.' The group then jumped the victim, punching him several times.

"As he was being assaulted, one of the males stole money from his pants pocket. The victim received minor injuries during the incident."

The cash was recovered from one of the apprehended suspects and returned to the victim. Officers searched the mall for the other
teens, but they could not be located.

One of the suspects, a 14 year old from Bridgeport, was charged with:

• Robbery, third degree
• Assault, third degree
• Larceny, sixth degree
• Breach of peace

The second suspect, who is 15 year old and also from Bridgeport, was charged with third-degree assault and breach of peace.

Both suspects were released to the custody of their parents, and they are scheduled to appear in juvenile court on Jan. 23.
