TRUMBULL, CT — A juvenile who was found with a knife in his possession was arrested Monday after a fight broke out at the Trumbull Mall, according to police.

In a news release, Police Lt. Brian Weir said officers were called to the mall around 3 p.m. after receiving a report of a fight in front of the mall's Apple Store.

The fight had been broken up and the people involved had left the area prior to officers' arrival. No injuries were reported, Weir said.

After learning a suspect with a knife had left the area, officers located a 15-year-old Bridgeport resident walking through the men's department of Macy's, Weir said.

After further investigation, police learned the juvenile had a kitchen knife wrapped with a white shoe lace around the grip concealed in the waistband of his pants, Weir said.

The teen told police he carries the knife for protection to "defend himself" but claimed he was not involved in the fight, Weir said. He also told officers he was in an arcade near the Apple Store when he saw a fight break out, but he left the area.

The teen was issued a juvenile summons and charged with carrying a dangerous weapon and breach of peace. He was released to the custody of his mother and is scheduled to appear in court later this month, according to Weir.
