Thousands Of Dollars Worth Of Jewelry Stolen At Trumbull Mall: Police

TRUMBULL, CT — Three masked thieves smashed a glass display case with a hammer and stole several thousand dollars worth of jewelry from a store at the Trumbull Mall on Wednesday, according to police.

In a news release, police said they received several calls reporting the theft at a Kay Jewelers store around 1:45 p.m.

Shoppers were alarmed by the loud shattering of the glass and mistakenly thought it was a gunshot, according to police. Officers later determined no weapons were involved in the smash and grab theft.

The suspects fled from the mall on foot and escaped near the Main Street exit in a dark four-door sedan, police said. Photos of the masked suspects can be viewed here on the department's Facebook page.

Trumbull detectives collected evidence and interviewed numerous witnesses about the incident, police said. The exact value of the stolen merchandise is still being calculated.
