Trumbull Car Burglars Arrested: PD

The two non-Trumbull residents told officers they were on a walk when confronted, police said.

TRUMBULL, CT — Two men were arrested after they stole from unlocked vehicles, according to police.

A resident reported seeing two men on Edison Road burglarizing vehicles May 1 , said Lt. Brian Weir, police spokesman.

The resident reported getting a security system alert and saw the two men walking near vehicles that were parked in nearby driveways.

Officers arrived in the area and arrested the two men around 1 a.m. When asked why they were out so late the men told police they wanted to go on a walk.

Officers found a change purse in the pocket of Joseph Amaral, 21, of Bridgeport and several other items, Weir said. Several area vehicles had been rummaged through. He was charged with two couns of burglary and sixth-degree larceny. Jesie Rojas, 24, of New Haven was charged with conspiracy to commit burglary.

Amaral was also arrested on two active warrants. one was issued by the state Department of Corrections parole fugitive unit for third-degree burglary and escape and another was from State Police for escape and third-degree burglary.

"Both men have had numerous run-ins with law enforcement and have lengthy criminal records," Weir said. "Rojas’s criminal history includes arrests for the Theft of a Firearm, Risk of Injury to a Minor, Assault, Larceny, and Criminal Trespass. Amaral’s criminal history includes arrests for Burglary, Criminal Mischief, and Probation violations.
