Trumbull Ethic Commission Appointment Causes Controversy
A resident who was a longtime Republican switched affiliation days before appointment to the commission.

Some have raised ethical concerns about a recent Ethics Commission appointment.
The Town Charter demands that alternates on the commission don’t have the same affiliation, according to the Connecticut Post. One of the members is a Republican and the other vacated the seat, leaving an opening for a non-Republican.
Herbst appointed Sami Bal, who was a longtime Republican, but changed his affiliation days before the appointment, the Post reports.

Some claim that while it might be technically correct, the appointment violates the spirit of the charter.
Herbst said for the appointment he was looking for a member of the clergy and that Bal is a man of integrity. Bal is a deacon at St. Nicholas Orthodox Church in Bridgeport.
