Trumbull Girls Basketball Dominates Darien

Four girls score in double figures, highlighted by Erin Moore's 19 points.

In coach Steve Tobitsch's second home game of the season, his Trumbull High girls' basketball team took it to a strong, previously undefeated Darien team.

Behind sophomore Erin Moore's 19 points, the Lady Eagles beat the Blue Wave 62-44 on Friday night.  The Lady Eagles had four players in double figures, including Moore.

In the first half, the Lady Eagles (2-0) controlled the pesky Blue Wave, holding them to 19 points.

Senior shooting star Kelly Coughlin scored all 10 of her points in the first half, while Moore had nine before intermission.  Underclass standouts Victoria and Alexa Pfohl each had six points in the opening half.

The Lady Eagles used their quick passing and fast-paced game to out-run Darien (3-1).

"We're a very unselfish team," Tobitsch said.  "From the guards up, we move the ball."

The coach attributed his team's success to its ability to make the extra pass.

"Kelly Coughlin is great at that, she can move the ball all around," added Tobitsch, who also compliment Moore and Victoria Pfohl for the same skill set.

The second half was much of the same for the Lady Eagles.  Moore's dominance inside the key was instrumental in the Lady Eagles' victory.

Adding 10 points in the second half put Trumbull over the top.  As the third quarter came to a close, Tobitsch put in his subs.  The Trumbull bench added 11 points to their team's cause.

Darien, which Tobitsch called a "top eight team," was lead by Nicole Buch and Meg Marren and Nicole Buch, who had 18 and 16 points, respectively.

Despite the seemingly lopsided score, according to Tobitsch, "This game is a résumé building game. At the end of the season, this is one of those games that will get us where we need to be."
