Trumbull J.C. Penney Safe for Now

Another Connecticut location wasn't as lucky.

TRUMBULL, CT — J.C. Penney, a long time fixture at the Connecticut Post Mall in Milford is scheduled to close, the Connecticut Post and other media outlets are reporting.

J.C. Penney plans to shutter 140 stores nationwide in an effort to reduce costs, according to media reports. No definitive timetable has been given for when the store will close but the month of June is a target.

J.C. Penney is located at 1201 Boston Post Road in Milford. No other J.C. Penney stores in the state are targeted for closing as of now.

A total of 5,000 jobs are expected to be eliminated as part of the store closings across the country.
J.C. Penney said it is closing stores to better compete in a changing marketplace where online shopping has become common.

"We are pleased with the double digit growth of jcpenney.com and how leveraging our brick and mortar locations is enabling us to offset the last-mile delivery cost," the company said in a statement in February.
