Trumbull Man Nearly Scammed Out of $8,500
A scammer pretended the man's grandson was in jail.

TRUMBULL, CT — A Trumbull grandfather was nearly scammed out of $8,000 after someone called falsely claimed that his grandson was in jail.
The elderly resident got a call from a man who identified himself as a Boston Police officer. The "officer" told the man that he had to send $8,500 for bond money to an address in Boston after his grandson was arrested for a DUI.
The resident sent cash via the U.S. Postal Service. He made contact with a family member and found out his grandson was in fact not incarcerated. Postal Inspection Service workers were able to intercept the piece of mail before the cash made it to the scammer.
