Trumbull Man Pleads Guilty To Possessing Guns, Ammunition: Feds

TRUMBULL, CT — A Trumbull man pleaded guilty in court Monday to charges of possession of firearms and ammunition by a felon, according to United States Attorney for the District of Connecticut Vanessa Roberts Avery.

Jack Jakups, 39, of Trumbull, is scheduled to be sentenced in February, Avery said in a news release Tuesday. He faces a maximum term of 10 years in prison.

According to court documents and statements made in court, Jakups' has previously been convicted on charges of narcotics possession, burglary, robbery, larceny and escape offenses. He was released from prison in January 2019.

On Nov. 30, 2021, Jakups' parole officer, with the assistance of the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, conducted a search of Jakups' home and seized a Diamondback 9mm handgun, a Ruger 9mm pistol with an obliterated serial number, a privately made Glock-19-style firearm, a privately made AR-15-style firearm and more than 300 rounds of ammunition, Avery said.

According to Avery, it is a violation of federal law for a person previously convicted of a felony offense to possess a firearm or ammunition that has moved in interstate or foreign commerce.

Jakups has been detained in state custody since Nov. 30, 2021, Avery said.
