Trumbull Man Slaps Victim With Machete: PD

The man assaulted a family member by slapping him with the flat side of a machete, police said.

TRUMBULL, CT — A Trumbull man was arrested after he slapped a family member in the neck with the flat side of a machete, according to police.

Police responded to the reported domestic incident Nov. 9. An argument between family members over an iPad password turned violent when Derek McBurnie, 54, pushed the victim by the neck and grabbed his shirt, police said.

He then grabbed a machete and slapped the victim in the neck with the flat side of it, according to police. The victim didn't get medical attention.

McBurnie was charged with second-degree assault and disorderly conduct. Bail was set at $25,000.
