Trumbull Officials Meet with DOT on Route 111 Traffic Woes

Town officials have recommended realigning the intersection of Route 11 with Old Mine Road near the shopping plaza.

First Selectman Tim Herbst and other Trumbull officials are meeting with the state Department of Transportation about traffic problems on Route 111 near the new shopping plaza.

Town officials have recommended to the state DOT that the entrance to the shopping plaza be re-aligned to create a four-way intersection at Rt. 111 and Old Mine Road that would be controlled by a traffic light.

“This will make entry and exit from the commercial shopping plaza much safer,” Herbst said. “We also believe that this will allow for a realignment and the addition of parking spaces that are sorely needed.”

The new alignment would allow for greater pedestrian safety for those who use the Pequonnock Trail.

Herbst said State Senator Marilyn Moore was instrumental in helping coordinate meetings with the DOT and working with other members of the Trumbull legislative delegation.

“All of these legislators are representing ‘Team Trumbull’ very well,” he said. “I believe these meetings will result in a positive action plan for the area, with specific plans being announced in the Spring and Summer of 2015.”

He also thanked DOT Commissioner James Redeker for meeting with Trumbull officials twice within a week.
