Trumbull Petition Demands Return to 7 Voting Districts
A advocacy group contends that lines are too long at Trumbull polling places.

TRUMBULL, CT — A local advocacy group is urging the town to return to seven districts from the current four.
A petition has close to 3,000 voter signatures and asks for a referendum on the issue.
“Voting is the greatest power we have as Americans,” Regina Haley, one of the initiative’s leaders, said. “And we are looking forward to the day when all Trumbullites have easier access to do so.”

The change was made five years ago with the goal of saving $8,000.
The average polling location in Fairfield County averages slightly less than 3,600 voters while Trumbull has more than 5,000.

“As we collected signatures, we heard a lot of stories from people who had had to wait in long lines to vote,” Julia McNamee, another member of the group, said. “Some people couldn’t find parking places and had to come back later. It just made it hard for many people to vote.”
