Trumbull residents lead Lauralton Hall to Class M Title

5 Trumbull residents were members of the Lauralton Hall swim team that won the Girls Class M State Swimming Championships.

Swimming at Wesleyan University on November 11, Juniors Elizabeth Sargent and Julia Spillane, Sophomore Hailey McLaughlin and Freshmen Katherine Begg and Caroline Sargent all scored points in the Crusader’s run to the title.

Elizabeth Sargent won gold in the 200 IM in a time of 2:08.60 and placed 3rd in the 100 butterfly with a time of 59.24. Sargent was also a member of the second place 200 Medley Relay (1:49.88) and the 3rd place 400 Free Relay (3:43.64). Elizabeth earned All-State honors for both individual swims and for the 200 Medley relay.

Julia Spillane placed 10th in the 100 Butterfly (1:02.63) and 16th in the 100 Breaststroke with a time of 1:17.25.

Hailey McLaughlin was 9th in the 200 IM with a time of 2:17.95 and 8th in the 500 freestyle, posting a time of 5:26.81. McLaughlin also swam on the 3rd place 400 free relay.

Katherine Begg was 5th in the 200 freestyle (1:59.85) and 4th in the 500 freestyle with a time of 5:15.92. Begg was a member of the 1st place finishing 200 freestyle relay as well as swimming on the 400 freestyle relay. Katherine earned All-State for her participation on the 200 freestyle relay.

Caroline Sargent placed 12th in the 200 freestyle covering the distance in 2:04.66. She also placed 9th in the 500 freestyle with a time of 5:30.34.

Elizabeth Sargent qualified for the State Open meet in the IM and Fly, while Begg qualified in the 500 Free. Sargent and Begg also qualified for relay events.
