Trumbull Shoplifter Arrested After Struggle: PD

He tried to flee the store, but was quickly caught by officers.

TRUMBULL, CT — Officers arrested a Bridgeport man after a brief struggle following a shoplifting incident, according to police.

Officers were called to Target at the mall Nov. 13. Robert Ward, 43, ran from officers as he was being questioned inside the store, he was caught a short time later after he tried to leave through the store's upper-exit, said Capt. Keith Golding, police spokesman.

Ward used a pocket knife to remove a cell phone from packaging and hid the merchandise in his jacket. He also took clothing and batteries, Golding said. The total amount of stolen merchandise was more than $200.

He was charged with interfering with police, possession of a shoplifting device and sixth-degree larceny. He was also charged with an outstanding warrant for violation of probation.
