Trumbull Surgeon to Receive Prestigious Physician Leadership Award

Greater Bridgeport Medical Association will honor a Hartford HealthCare surgical leader on May 14

The Greater Bridgeport Medical Association (GBMA) has announced that a Trumbull surgeon and healthcare leader will be honored with the 2026 Distinguished Physician Leadership Award during the organization’s annual Awards & Scholarship Dinner on Thursday, May 14 at Vazzano’s Four Seasons in Stratford.

Shea Gregg, MD, FACS, Chair of Surgery at St. Vincent’s Medical Center, Hartford HealthCare, is being recognized for his outstanding leadership in trauma surgery, surgical critical care, patient safety, and community health innovation.

A board-certified acute care and trauma surgeon and Fellow of the American College of Surgeons, Dr. Gregg is widely respected throughout Connecticut for advancing trauma systems, improving patient outcomes, and developing programs focused on injury prevention and geriatric care.

Dr. Gregg represents the very best of physician leadership, which is why the Greater Bridgeport Medical Association wants to recognize him,” said John Brannelly, Executive Director of the Greater Bridgeport Medical Association. “His commitment to clinical excellence, innovation, education, and improving healthcare systems has had a tremendous impact on patients and the medical community throughout our region. We are proud to recognize his accomplishments with this award.”

Dr. Gregg earned his medical degree from The Warren Alpert Medical School of Brown University. He completed his surgical residency training at Yale New Haven Health and later pursued a fellowship in surgical critical care at the University of Maryland Medical System R Adams Cowley Shock Trauma Center, one of the nation’s premier trauma programs.

In addition to his clinical leadership responsibilities at St. Vincent’s Medical Center, Dr. Gregg has served as Chair of the Connecticut State Trauma Committee and has helped lead innovative initiatives including the Geriatric Injury Institute. He is also recognized as an educator, researcher, entrepreneur, and mentor to future physicians.

The GBMA Awards & Scholarship Dinner will also honor additional physician and nursing leaders while awarding scholarships to local students pursuing careers in healthcare and medicine.
