Trumbull Woman Being Honored for Work with Retts Syndrome

A Trumbull woman is being honored by the UMass Medical School for her advocacy for those with Rett Syndrome.

Monica Coenraads first become involved with the syndrome when her two-year-old daughter was diagnosed with the neurological disorder. In 1999 she founded the Rett Syndrome Research Foundation.

Groundbreaking Work in 2007 demonstrated global reversal of symptoms in preclinical models.

She also launched the Rett syndrome Research Trust. She has helped raise $41 million for research.

Coenraads will be honored at the school’s commencement and will receive an honorary degree.
