“You can conquer boredom,” she says. “You’ve been on your own, with your friends, doing what you want when you want to. Now you’re home, with nowhere to go and no way to get there. Taking a course can give structure and purpose to your existence.”
“You can keep that gray matter limber,” she says. “Yes, you were strung out and burned out from the pressure of exams. However, now you’re on the road to recovery and you mind is looking for something to latch on to. Summer school will provide this.

“After two semesters on the higher education treadmill, your mind is looking for a change of pace,” she says. “ It wants to find something new to learn, just for fun. Summer School gives it the opportunity to do this.
“You can save money,” she says. “No matter why you’re taking summer courses, they still cost less here than at a private college. I know I don’t have to advise you on what to do with extra money.”

“You can increase your credits to make up lost ones,” she said. “Sure, you have to make them up some time. But, remember, you’re bored with time on your hands. This is a good way to break that boredom and put the time to good use.”
“You can retake that course you bombed,” she says. “The thought of going through it again may send cold chills up and down your spine, but a new professor in a new environment may make all the difference. Remember, it will be easier this time around. The first time you took it, it was totally new. Now, you’re bringing a lot knowledge about the course with you.”
“You can stockpile credits so you can take a lighter course load during the school year or graduate early,” she said. “And you can save a lot of money in the process …not to mention breaking summer boredom and giving structure to your life.”
“You can get real quality learning from real quality instructors,” she says. “Sure, there are subject experts at your primary college. We have them here, too. Just look in the local newspapers or listen to radio talk shows and you’ll see and hear them. But we have teaching experts here as well. They know their subjects and they know how to teach them. That’s one of the main things that differentiates community colleges from four-year schools… next, of course, to cost.’
“You can meet great people from your home town area,” she says. “These new friends will help you break the boredom when you’re home on vacation next year … or during breaks from your courses next summer.”
