Winter Team State Championship History: St. Joseph, Trumbull

TRUMBULL, CT — As practices for high school winter sports officially get underway Monday (girls basketball, ice hockey and wrestling) and Thursday (boys basketball, indoor track, boys swimming and girls gymnastics), hopes run high for all teams to achieve the ultimate goal: winning a league championship, and possibly a state title.

To help squads get into the championship mentality, here is a listing of the 18 CIAC winter team titles won by St. Joseph and Trumbull high schools in past years (* - indicates a co-op team).

St. Joseph

• boys basketball (11) - Class LL: 2012, 2011; Class L: 2001, 1996, 1993, 1992, 1988; Class M: 1987, 1986; Class S: 1977, 1975
• girls basketball (2) - Class M: 2015, 1979
• boys ice hockey (1) - Div. III: 2009

Trumbull

• boys indoor track (2) - State Open: 2000; Class L: 2000
• boys ice hockey (1) - Div. II: 2012
• girls basketball (1) - Class L: 1974
