VERNON, CT — A 17-year-old driver is facing her second serious motor vehicle charge in as many weeks after being caught doing 88 mph on a stretch of Tunnel Road in Vernon Sunday night, police said.

An officer saw her car race by while on a holiday enforcement detail, police said. Her car was headed down the hill toward the historic tunnel, police said. She had four other teens in the car and was cited for speeding, according to police.

Two weeks ago, the same girl, a Vernon resident, crashed her car near Walker Reservoir and a series of "S" curves on Reservoir Road, police said. The car narrowly missed going into the lake, police said.
