2 Snagged Trying to Pass Phony Bond Refund Checks: Warrant

2 people have been charged in a case of trying to pass forged bond refund checks from Rockville Superior Court, state police said.

VERNON, CT — Two people have been charged in a case of trying to pass phony bond refund checks from Rockville Superior Court, state police said.

April Scanlan, 32, of Suffield, was charged with first-degree forgery and second-degree larceny, according to a report.

Michael Cruz, 32, of New Britain, was charged with the same crimes, according to a report.

The case dates back to February 2016. The checks had the correct account number but the wrong address for the courthouse, which tipped off Webster Bank staffers, who, in turn, alerted state police, according to a warrant.
