2 Vernon Establishments Caught in Alcohol Sting
Two establishments were caught selling alcoholic beverages to minors.

VERNON, CT — Two establishments were caught selling alcoholic beverages to minors in a sting conducted by Vernon police and Connecticut Liquor Control agents, police said.
The compliance checks took place Friday and involved minors, working under the supervision of authorities, attempting to purchase alcohol.
Police said the two establishments that sold alcohol to minors were:

- Stop and Shop, 10 Pitkin Road
Police said the establishments that complied with procedures and denied the sale to a minor were:
- CV Mart, 1237 Hartford Turnpike
- Aldi, 360 Talcottville Road
- Drive-In Package Store, 240 West Main St.
- Whiskey and Wine, 1000 Hartford Turnpike
- Harry's Fine Wine and Liquors, 482 Talcottville Road
- Stop and Shop, 50 Windsorville Road
- Wine Seller, 1189 Hartford Turnpike
- Lafayette Wine and Liquor, 30 Lafayette Square
- Rockville Discount Liquor, 20 East Main St.
- Vernon Circle Package Store, 243 Hartford Turnpike
- Adam's Polish Foods, 205 Talcottville Road
- Riley's Liquors, 312 Hartford Turnpike
- Four Seasons Package Store, 630 Talcottville Road
- 7-Eleven, 903 Hartford Turnpike
- Price Chopper, 35 Talcottville Road
The enforcement effort took place in conjunction with the Vernon ROCKS Coalition. Vernon ROCKS receives state funding from the Department of Mental Health and Addiction Services (DMHAS). In Vernon the compliance checks were conducted to address enforcement of the liquor laws, making alcohol less accessible to minors. This was an improvement from last year’s checks where five establishments were not compliant.

As a follow-up, the Vernon ROCKS Coalition will be sponsoring a "TIPS" training on June 12, offered to employees of stores that sell alcohol. The TIPS training provides information on the liquor laws, how to properly check IDs and how to handle difficult situations that may occur when enforcing the laws.
