2017 Vernon Fireworks Show: The Complete Guide

Henry Park and Downtown Rockville are the two sanctioned viewing areas for the July in the Sky celebration.

VERNON, CT — The 72nd edition of the annual July in the Sky fireworks display is on tap for July 5 in Downtown Rockville and at Henry Park.

The event draws spectators from all over the region. The rain date is July 6. The event sponsors are Price Chopper and Superior Energy.

Following tradition, there will be a loud boom salute at 6 p.m. to signify the start of all activities.

Henry Park and Downtown Rockville are the two officials viewing sites. Northeast School is no longer a sanctioned viewing area.

Food booths, giant inflatables, a climbing wall, games of skill and Big Jim’s Foam Machine will again be featured. A $10 wrist band will covers all activities.

The annual Push, Pull, Pedal, Patriotic Parade, sponsored by Mill Street Auto, will begin forming at 7 p.m. at the Ladd & Hall Parking Lot. Kids and families are invited to bring their bikes, skates, roller blades, strollers to march around the Downtown Rockville area. Trophies will be awarded.

Entertainment will be provided by the sounds of "Grand Avenue" and "The Second Annual Summer Fashion Show."

At Henry Park, the gates will open at 6 p.m.

The “Fun Zone,” sponsored by Superior Energy, will once again cover McCoy baseball field with giant inflatable toys and games. Wrist bands will be sold for $10.

The Whale 102.9 will provide music in the Fun Zone, face painter Laurie Hessler will be on hand and food and ice cream will be available.

Entertainment and the food court in the park are sponsored by the United Bank Foundation. "The Eastview Drive Band" is set to play from 7 to 9:15 p.m. and at 7:30, Skylin Foster will be singing the National Anthem.

Things to know for Henry Park

  • ARRIVE EARLY at Henry Park to take advantage of the parking ($5 per car) available and to select a preferred seating location and bring blankets and chairs.
  • There will be a $1 admission fee for all walk-ins at Henry Park.
  • Parked cars cannot leave until the show is over at approximately 10 p.m.
  • Pets will not be allowed into the Parks.
  • Henry Park will close at 4 p.m. for all activities
  • Tower Road will close at 10 a.m.
  • Bicycles and skaeboard will not allowed in the park.
  • No fireworks, sparklers and alcoholic beverages will be allowed in the Park.

ROAD CLOSURES

  • Henry Park: Spruce Street, Tower Rd after 10 a.m., Henry Park portions of Thomas Street. There will be no foot traffic or vehicles allowed on Tower Road beginning at 10 a.m. Residents of the area should plan accordingly, but will be allowed vehicular access.

NO PARKING

  • Vernon Avenue, McLean Street, South Street

ONE SIDE PARKING

  • High Street, Howard Street, Fox Hill Drive, Reed Street, Kevin Drive, Hale Street Extension, Earl Street and Crown Street.

TRAFFIC FLOW

  • Cars parked in Henry Park will exit onto South Street going west. Cars parked on Fox Hill Drive, Reed Street, Hale Street Extension, Crown Street and White Street will exit onto South.
