50th Annual Fishing Derby in Vernon

VERNON, CT: The weather couldn’t have been better for the 50th Annual Fishing Derby held at Valley Falls Pond this past weekend. Vernon Parks and Recreation and JT’s Fly shop put on this great event with the support of Wolff Financial, Discount Trophy and Swiss Cleaners. Around 70 participants 15 years old and younger came to cast their lines in hopes of walking away with the John M. Gessay trophy and a new rod & reel for the heaviest trout of the day. The Fishing Derby is divided into 6 divisions with prizes given to the first, second and third of each division. Along with a certificate and medal, first place received a tackle box and second place went home with a net.
