74-Year-Old Brought To U.S. To Face Vernon Sex Assault Charges

VERNON, CT — A 74-year-old man is in custody on a six-figure bond after being transported from Puerto Rico to face a first-degree sexual assault charge in Vernon, police and court records show.

Ivan Aner Hernandez Nieves waived extradition and was brought to the U.S. on Sept. 16, police said. He appeared in Rockville Superior Court the following day, records show. A judge upheld his initial $150,000 bond and Nieves was still in custody Wednesday morning, court records show.

Nieves has also been charged with fourth-degree sexual assault and illegal sexual contact, records show.

A warrant, heavily redacted to protect the victim in the case, shows the victim's age as 14. The case dates back to last year, records show.

Nieves is due back in court on Oct. 15.
