VERNON, CT — State police stopped a vehicle that was traveling nearly 100 mph on Interstate 84 Saturday and promptly located 450 bags containing a potent drug inside the car, an arrest report indicates.

At 7:44 p.m. Saturday, state troopers stopped a vehicle that was traveling 96 mph on the eastbound side of I-84 between exits 66 and 67, according to an arrest report. State police then discovered about 450 packages of fentanyl and a half-ounce of methamphetamine and other drug paraphernalia inside the car, according to an arrest report.

The car resembled a "mobile drug factory," according to an arrest report.

Jeffrey Wayne Barnes was taken into custody and charged with reckless driving the use of drug paraphernalia, operating a drug factory, the sale of narcotics and possession of a controlled substance, according to an arrest report.

Barnes was held over the weekend on a $75,000 bond and was to appear in Rockville Superior Court Monday, according to an arrest report.

Barnes had been released from custody after posting $30,000 bail in an August case related to a drug sale, according to judicial system records. He is due back in court on Jan. 10 in that case, records show.
