A man accused of squatting at a Vernon apartment in exchange for drugs was arrested after a violent incident last month: warrant.

VERNON, CT — A man accused of squatting at a Vernon apartment in exchange for drugs was arrested after a violent incident last month, according to a warrant.

Cody Haskell, 23, was charged with first-degree unlawful restraint, second-degree strangulation, third-degree assault, third-degree robbery and second-degree breach of peace, according to an arrest report.

The incident in question occurred on Nov. 3, according to a warrant. The listed victim in the case resides in a single room at 55 Davis Ave. in Vernon, according to a warrant. She told police Haskell had been staying there while providing her drugs, according to a warrant.

At one point, the woman determined Haskell was not there for a relationship and told him to leave, according to a warrant. That set off an episode in which Haskell is accused to choking her twice in a scuffle that began on a bed and spilled onto a nearby futon, according to a warrant. The woman allegedly punched Haskell in the face, according to a warrant.

Haskell tried to smash her phone with his work boots, according to a warrant.

A witness said the scuffle could be heard through a "thin wall" at the house, according to a warrant.

Haskell fled the room when the woman ran to the wall and screamed to neighbors on the other side, according to a warrant.
