Wonderful community members have donated money to provide 4 children from ages 5 and up to attend the Strong Family Farm program. To enter, each child must submit a short essay on why they want to participate in the program. All entries must be submitted by May 23rd. Mail all entries to Strong Family Farm, 274 West St., Vernon, CT 06066. In the Adopt-A-Chicken program, each child plays an integral part of a chicken’s life at the farm for the summer and fall. The money will pay for the chicken, feed, fencing, coop repair AND 10 visitations with chicken lessons and activities with our wonderful instruction, Mrs. P.B and Chicken Staff. This is open for “kids” from ages 6-96! Discover everything about chickens during chicken classes. In conjunction with the 4-H, all aspects involved with chicken care will be available to you. 10 visitations with programs only on Wednesdays – 4-5 p.m. on 5/28, 6/11, 6/25, 7/9, 7/23, 8/6, 8-20, 9/3, 9/17, 10/1. Harvest Festival goodbye to the chicks – 10/18. At the end of the program, all chickens go to a local farmer to live with other chickens in a nice chicken coop to produce eggs. Sorry, they cannot be taken home. This will be discussed as part of the first lesson. Parents or guardians must accompany the student.
