Altercation Over Keys At Vernon Store Leads To Charges: Police

A dispute over keys triggered an incident at a store in Vernon, police said.

VERNON, CT — An altercation at a store in the Rockville section of Vernon left a Waterbury man with charges, police said.

At 11:35 p.m. on Dec. 15, police were dispatched to the New York Deli at 60 School Street for a suspicious situation.

The owner told officers that a customer had taken keys to the store and threatened to return with a gun, according to an incident report.

After the owner showed officers the customer and his vehicle with surveillance footage, they were both located down the street a short time later, according to an incident report. The customer was identified by police as a 45-year-old Waterbury man.

The man told police he was at the store but denied taking the keys or making any threats, according to an incident report.

After reviewing the camera footage again he was arrested and charged with sixth-degree larceny, disorderly conduct, driving with insufficient insurance, the misuse of a registration plate and operating an unregistered motor vehicle, police said. The man is set to appeared at Rockville Superior Court on Dec. 19, police said.
