Shelves Replenished After Emergency Appeal At Vernon Pet Pantry

VERNON, CT — The community has rallied to combat a dog food shortage at the Vernon Pet Pantry.

After an urgent appeal, a total of 1,650 pounds of dry dog food have been collected.

"We were overwhelmed by the response and are incredibly appreciative of the generous and caring support of the Vernon community,” said Lisa Moody, one of the founders of the Vernon Pet Pantry. "Our cupboards were bare, but the people’s hearts were full."

She continued, "No one should go hungry, whether a person or a pet. Our mission is to help feed the dogs and cats who would otherwise go hungry. And the ongoing support of our community is critical to fulfilling that mission."

Moody said she hopes the generosity can continue.

"One bag or can of food can make a huge difference and we hope people continue to show their compassion by donating to our pantry," she said.

Dog and cat food donations are accepted at the pantry, which is run in partnership with the Vernon-based Hockanum Valley Community Council. Dry food is especially needed, Moody said.
