VERNON, CT — The Town of Vernon Fire Department honored fallen firefighters Thursday evening during the national Light the Night observance.
Vernon's fire stations and the Fox Hill Tower were illuminated in red from dusk until 10 p.m.
The National Fallen Firefighters Foundation launched the Light the Night for Fallen Firefighters observance in 2017 to commemorate the Foundation's 25th anniversary.
Staged annually during the National Fallen Firefighters Memorial Weekend, the tribute has grown to include fire departments, families and communities across the country that light their homes and buildings in red to honor fallen firefighters.
