Officers report he failed field sobriety tests on Terrace Drive and was charged with DUI, illegal handheld phone use, a lane violation, and driving without a license.
2. Preliminary Report Issued On Car Vs. Motorcycle Crash Near Vernon-Manchester Line (patch.com) — A serious motorcycle–car crash near the Vernon–Manchester line sent a Vernon-area rider to Hartford Hospital and shut down Hartford Turnpike for several hours Tuesday afternoon. Vernon police, fire, and ambulance crews responded, and investigators are still reconstructing the scene. Anyone who witnessed the crash is asked to contact Vernon police as the case remains open.
3. State Funeral Directors Hailing Bill Aimed At Funeral Home Fraud Rooted In Tolland And Hartford Counties (patch.com) — Families in Vernon and nearby towns who say they lost prepaid funeral funds are closer to restitution under a new statewide bill targeting unlawful funeral service practices. The measure, inspired partly by a Vernon police investigation, would create a compensation fund and stronger safeguards for prepaid contracts, with payments expected to begin in 2027 if signed by the governor.
4. Global experts look to Connecticut as crumbling foundations crisis spreads (nbcconnecticut.com) — Vernon homeowner advocate Debbie MacCoy is part of a statewide push that’s now drawing global experts to Connecticut to study crumbling concrete foundations. Researchers, engineers, and policymakers met at UConn in Mystic to examine how the state’s remediation program has repaired more than 1,200 homes and what lessons might help other regions facing similar, costly basement failures.
