Public Works Closure Shifts July 3 Trash, Recycling Pickup In Town

VERNON, CT — Residents should plan for a holiday change to trash and recycling service as the Public Works Department closes Friday, July 3 in observance of Independence Day.

According to the notice, refuse and recycling will not be collected that day. Instead, collection scheduled for July 3 will take place Monday, July 6, 2026, along with that day's regular pickup.

The announcement also asks residents to leave carts out if service runs behind.

The holiday notice also includes a change at the transfer station. According to the notice, the transfer station will be closed Saturday, July 4th, and will reopen Sunday, July 5th, during its normal hours of noon to 4:00 p.m.
