Rockville Superior Court Jury Renders Guilty Verdict In Tolland County Sexual Assault Case Involving Minor

VERNON, CT — A jury in Rockville Superior Court Wednesday found 28-year-old Cody Cutler, of Hartford, guilty of second-degree sexual assault and risk of injury to a minor in a case that began with an investigation a half-dozen years ago and an arrest four years ago.

Tolland State's Attorney Craig P. Nowak made the announcement.

Judge Tejas Bhatt presided over the trial. State police out of Troop K made the initial arrest in 2022.

According to case records, on Dec. 18, 2020, Cutler used the social media messaging platform Snapchat to meet a minor and subsequently sexually assaulted her. The girl immediately reported the assault and was taken to Connecticut Children’s Medical Center where medical treatment provided physical evidence corroborating her claims, case records show.

Supervisory Assistant State's Attorney Emily Trudeau prosecuted the case with the assistance of Inspector John DiVenere and Paralegal Specialist Jennifer McDermott and the cooperation of the Coventry Police Department, the Connecticut State Police Troop K barracks, and the Department of Emergency Services and Public Protection’s Forensic Science Laboratory.

Trudeau commended the victim "for her courage in reporting her assault, her patience during the long and difficult pretrial investigations, and her bravery, candor, and composure during her in-court testimony."

Sentencing is scheduled for Sept. 23 in Rockville.
