VERNON, CT — When school started Thursday for the 2026-26 academic year, an all-time favorite was back on the menu at Rockville High School and the offerings in general systemwide were a bit fresher.

The popular chicken wings and mac-and-cheese entree is back on the menu at RHS.

The highlight of the day, nutrition director Elizabeth Fisher said, was the fresh cucumbers picked from the RHS agriculture student greenhouse.

Chef Tom picked them personally before lunch.

Vernon cafeterias systemwide welcomed students back to school with farm fresh produce.

Fresh watermelon and super-sweet cherry tomatoes from Cloverleigh Farm were highlighted and enjoyed by students across the district.

All students are eligible to receive free school breakfast this year.

Students can come to the cafeteria every morning when they arrive for a warm breakfast at no charge.
