VERNON, CT — Vernon officials will join residents and local business owners Oct. 20 to formally dedicate a new mural on East Main Street celebrating Rockville's history, natural beauty and ongoing revitalization efforts.
Mayor Dan Champagne and the Vernon Town Council will take part in the unveiling of the "Threads of Community" mural at 5:45 p.m. Tuesday at Cornerstone, 1 Prospect St. The mural faces East Main Street.
Artist Heather Herindeen will attend the event to discuss her work and the planning and labor involved in creating the mural.
The project was funded through a crowdfunding campaign and a grant from the Connecticut Main Street Center. Organizers envisioned the mural as a visual gateway to downtown Rockville and the Vernon Cultural District.
The artwork reflects Rockville's natural surroundings and its history of mills and manufacturing. It also highlights community efforts to revitalize the downtown area and expand its role as a center for arts and community activities.
The mural is intended to recognize Rockville's industrial past while reflecting continued efforts to encourage new activity and investment in the downtown area.
