Vernon Petition Opposing Eversource Rate Increase Reaches About 4,800 Signatures

Eversource customers from any town can sign Vernon's petition through Saturday, Oct. 31.

Vernon's petition opposing Eversource's requested 13 percent residential rate increase has drawn about 4,800 signatures, according to the town. Customers have until Saturday, Oct. 31, to add their names.

Mayor Dan Champagne and members of the Vernon Town Council have signed the petition and are urging customers to join them. According to the town's announcement, Eversource filed the request in July. If approved, it would increase residential electric rates 13 percent beginning in July 2027.

"Not everyone has the time to attend PURA hearings or to make their views known to the agency," Champagne said. "We are trying to make it as easy as possible for Eversource ratepayers to voice their opposition to the rate increase to PURA. At a time of ever-increasing energy costs, we all need a break and urge PURA to limit any increase."

Eversource customers can sign the petition online, regardless of their town of residence. The petition will be forwarded to the Public Utilities Regulatory Authority, according to the town.
