Monsignor Thaddeus Malanowski, retired priest, military chaplain and author, visited St. Joseph’s Church here in Rockville once again on Sunday, August 5th, celebrating the 9:30 a.m. Mass. Msgr.Ted has been an old friend of the parish community going back to 1950. Despite being 90, he, even up to the last several years, has maintained a varied and active schedule from serving in Haiti with the Norwich-based Haitian Health Foundation which he helped found with Dr. Jeremiah J. Lowney, DDS, as well as being the court appointed chaplain to Terri Schindler Schiavo.
He also has found time enough to write a biography, “Sacrifice for God and Country” ( available on Amazon.com), which recounts his time as a chaplain in the military, eventually being named Deputy Chief of Chaplains, with the rank of Brigadier General in the U.S. Army, serving, in all, from 1950 to 1978.
The book spans his youth and family of immigrant parents to interaction with several U.S. Presidents, spiritual leaders such as John Paul II, and the late Cardinal Cooke, many high ranking Generals, and scores of soldiers including a young Elvis Presley in the late 1950s.
100% of the royalties from this book will be given to the Terri Schiavo Life and Hope Network as well as the Haitian Health Foundation. HHF provides health, development, and hope for a future to over 225,000 people in over 100 rural
mountain villages.
HHF has an overhead of less than 8 cents per donated dollar, with over 92percent of funds collected going directly to services for the poor. www.haitianhealthfoundation.org/
