Armed Man Wrestled Down By Police Near Rockville High School Field

VERNON, CT — An armed man tried to hide from police after stealing apparel from an athletic equipment shed at Rockville High School in Vernon after violating a protective order a short distance away, according to a police report.

The incident took place on April 13, according to an arrest report. At 4:32 p.m. that day, Vernon police responded to a complaint from the 200 block of Regan Road for a possible protective order violation.

Police said they quickly confirmed that the subject of the complaint, 42-year-old Manchester resident Michael Monseglio, was not supposed to be on the property. Monseglio, in an effort to elude police, left the property in possession of a pocket knife, according to an arrest report.

He was subsequently located near an equipment shed at Rockville High School, according to an arrest report. Police saw him enter the shed near the stadium field and emerge in "clothing that did not belong to him," according to an arrest report.

Police saw Monseglio holding the knife, ordered him to stop and took him to the ground when he did not comply, according to an arrest report.

In addition to the knife, Monseglio was in possession of 1.7 grams of cocaine and drug paraphernalia, police said.

Monseglio was charged with second-degree reckless endangerment, sixth-degree larceny, second-degree breach of peace, the use of drug paraphernalia, interfering with police, violating a protective order, and second-offense possession of a controlled substance.

Monseglio's initial $10,000 bond was bumped up to $75,000 in court the following day and he remained in custody Monday morning after failing to post it, judicial system records show. He is due back before a judge on May 19, records show.
