Atheists, Santa Show Up At Vernon Town Hall, Jesus Coming Soon

Different faiths and practices are again depicted in Vernon's Central Park.

VERNON, CT — The atheists joined Santa at Central Park in Vernon Monday morning and Jesus was not far behind.

Santa Claus came to town Friday when the Santa House opened during the annual Winterfest celebration. It's a unique feature in Vernon that lets children visit Santa Saturdays and Sundays from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., free of charge through Dec. 18.

The monuments to different beliefs and practices have popped up in December for the past several years, usually in the first full week of the month. They are part of an all-inclusive display policy adopted by the Vernon Town Council in 2007.

A Christmas tree and a large wreath hanging from town hall are also on display.
